Blast from the past! Last Year's Open Studio: Photos from the luminous Amelia Passacantando

April 16, 2016 by Agathi Pavlidis

The beautiful angel who is commonly known as Amelia, kindly came by my studio one year ago to take process shots of me preparing for Open Studios. The photos came out wonderfully, and I love how she layers the images to create a more active and telling photograph. Also some very exciting news! The large collage you see me working on in these photos I ended up selling at Open Studios one year later! Feels so cyclical and poetic.

Inside the Artist's Studio: Derek Palmer photographer to the Stars (read: me)

April 15, 2016 by Agathi Pavlidis

My friend Derek came by the studio a couple months back to shoot some photos of me working for his portfolio. I'd like to say I'm a natural, but that'd be a lie. My knee jerk reaction is to duck whenever a camera comes around, and haven't the slightest idea of how to pose. Ever since I was a wee-babe I detested being the center of attention. The birthday song was particularly traumatic. The lights would dim, everyone would turn and stare, their faces demonic, under-lit by little wax candles, and then that song, that terrible song. Year after year I'd well up and run out of the room screaming and crying until it stopped. I was quite the drama queen about it, but the point is being the center of attention is a source of anxiety. I've been resisting, and "fighting the (stubborn) fight" against social media for some time now, and it's only to MY detriment. In the era of social media as queen, I need to get over myself. Without it most of the working creative's wouldn't have the careers they do, and would be "starving". So here I am getting over myself. Luckily I have some talented friends, like Derek, who can help me do it well. Since my studio practice is quite solitary, it's a real treat see it through a fresh set of eyes. I'm so excited to be able share my process and creative space with you! I'm in love with how the photos came out, and hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
